Some random salsa dance things you should know about:

First, this weekend is the Reno Dance Sensation, which higlights Salsa, Swing and West Coast social dancing, shows, perofrmances and competition! Details are at, http://www.renodancesensation.com.

Second, The First Annual Cuba Caribe Festival—four groundbreaking and provocative weeks of performance, workshops, discussions, and celebration—will feature the choreography of Ramón Ramos Alayo and Susana Arenas Pedroso, the dance of members of Ban Rarra, and many other Bay Area Cuban artists and dancers. The festival will promote the rich and diverse traditions of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora as reflected in music, dance, theater, social concerns, and religion.

It will highlight the many dance and music forms of Cuba from the sacred Orisha dances, to the more joyous salsa, to the groundbreaking mixture of African and Modern Dance, and popular forms such as mambo, son, and rumba. There will also be musical presentations of the Nueva Trova (new song) movement that pays homage to the revolutionary spirit of Cuban people and their strong sense of internationalism.
