A few thoughts that definitely need to be passed along to the public-at-large!
Cafe Cocomo on a Saturday is simply hard to beat. I haven't been making it on Saturday's as much as I used to, but this club is simply rockin' these days. Some fantastic improvements have freed up a lot of the dance floor, and I danced the entire night without being bumped. In fact, for the last couple of Saturdays I've visited, I've had plenty of room to dance, both times. That's not to say there isn't a crowd, because there certainly is - but it feels more roomy, and It's been great. The classes, at 8pm, on both Thursdays and Saturday, continue to be a great place for beginners and intermediates to pick up some fun new moves. I have to say, I've had a blast at Cocomo's in the last few weeks, so don't miss it!
Jelly's at Pier 50 remiains my choice for the absolute best sound, and most "dance-with-the-band" experience! When I'm there, I'm simply moved by the music. It's great. That place, dancing in an incredibly small space, right in front of the band - you just feel "it". It sounded incredible (hats off to Andrew as well - the sound guy) for the double-header with Mazacote and Anthony Blea y su Charanga! Both of these top notch bands were in top form this last Sunday. An absolutely stellar concert and dance! No lesson, small floor, absolutely incredible feel. Don't miss Anthony's fundraiser (the band's going to NYC!) at Jelly's on March 4th, 9-1. Should be absolutely stellar.
Allegro Ballroom, which I attendeded afterwards, continues it's reign of Bay Area Salsa. The largest non-club venue in California (although Enio's place in So. Cal. might be larger now?), this place regularly draws in hundreds upon hundreds of dancers each and every Sunday night, and this past Sunday was no exception. In fact, it was so packed, there was a line out the door, and people were waiting for more than an hour just to get in! That's just incredible. The dancing was fantastic as usual, and hats off to DJ Antonio for some excellent music all night long.
